The poisoning day was a good month before Christmas and we hoped that by then all the long-tailed silverfish would be destroyed. Well, it didn’t quite go that way. The second poisoning was done with the same formula, taking into account the additional facilities.
This time, the whole family went to a hotel for a couple of nights to avoid poisoning. This served as a nice mini-vacation in the middle of everyday life and took my mind off the long-tailed silverfish for a while. The children enjoyed themselves and the parents also had fun as a result.
The long-tailed silverfish decreased a lot after the second poisoning, but there were still some. It had now been agreed with the pest controller that, in addition to standard poisons, we would put bait in certain worst areas. The bait is placed in small spots, e.g. under the floorboards, approximately every 1 meter. The bait works for a longer time and the principle is that when the long-tailed silverfish eats the bait it doesn’t die immediately, but when it returns to its “nest” to die, the other members of the colony eat it and thereby get poison and die. For us, bait was placed in the kitchen, living room and upstairs hall.
Since the bait was quite long-acting, it was agreed that if poison was needed a third time, it would be done at a longer interval, i.e. it would be done well after the new year. As a guide, it was always said that if you can see living things towards the end of the episode, it is still worth doing the next poisoning.

When the year turned into a new one, it was quite clear to us that the third poisoning would be done no matter what. Although the number of long-tailed silverfish had fortunately gone in a much better direction, there were still individual observations. And at this point too, we have to say to all readers that we had a really big problem, which has a lot to do with how quickly you can get rid of them. There were a lot of large full-grown long-tailed silverfish, which means that the long-tailed silverfish may have been in the house for years in complete peace.

Poisoning no. 3
Towards the end of January, pest controller arrived again. The difference this time was that in addition to our home, the other end of our warehouse was also poisoned just to be sure. We had a tenant there and we wanted to make sure that long-tailed silverfish have not spread all the way there. And later it turned out that fortunately they were not found there and the tenants were only happy when there are accurate landlords. In general, the warehouse quickly calmed down from the long-tailed silverfish.
This time we went to a rented villa for evacuation. We no longer told the children about the third poisoning because we thought it would be an unnecessary headache for them, and as experienced connoisseurs, we planned everything in such a way that they didn’t even notice the entire poisoning operation.
We protected our home almost completely this time with a thin protective plastic, in order to save ourselves from a big cleaning operation after the weekend vacation. We protected the kitchen counters, living room, bedrooms and some floor surfaces. We protected the children’s rooms so well that nothing else was visible except a little bit next to the moldings where the poisons would come.

After the third poisoning, the situation started to calm down to normal. We are living in February at the moment and the expectations are high. In total, 4 months have now passed since the beginning of long-tailed silverfish problem. We start to feel that we are really on the winning side already. We thought about whether we would still take a safety poisoning in April, i.e. for the fourth time, but it has not been decided yet. However, it’s only been a week since the third poisoning and it’s already quiet. Soon we will be able to continue our move to the end, to really make this a home. I am very grateful that things have gone so well.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN GET RID OF THESE! Dont worry!
