Our story in the house overrun by long-tailed silverfish, part 5
Here’s a brief recap for those readers who don’t know our initial situation in the fight against the long-tailed silverfish. We bought a new house in October 2021 and it soon became apparent that long-tailed silverfish have taken over our new house. This problem did not come up in any way in the house condition examination or in acquaintance
visits with getting to know the apartment.
We did the first poisoning within a week of our move in October 2021, after this there were still a lot of long-tailed silverfish and quite vigorous and alive individuals and they were constantly visible. The second poisoning was done in December of the same year and after this second time the long-tailed silverfish decreased even more and they were not necessary to dodge quite so much, but e.g. on the kitchen level you could see random long-tailed silverfish (and by the way I stopped baking gingerbread for it that Christmas :D). The third poisoning was done in January 2022 and after that it started to feel a little bit like we are now on the winning side and the long-tailed silverfish are starting to be gone. How wrong were we!
In April 2022, we ordered the fourth poisoning.
In September 2022, we decided to do the fifth poisoning to eradicate the long-tailed silverfish. Occasional long-tailed silverfish had been observed and we had decided earlier that we would continue poisoning if there were live occurrences. The situation is already really good, but we usually play it safe anyway, and that’s the case now as well.

As a consolation for all readers, even though we have already done five poisonings, they are constantly decreasing and I am already feeling really confident. The day will surely come when long-tailed silverfish are no longer visible. And if you haven’t read my previous articles on this topic, according to the poisoning company, we had a very large population of long-tailed silverfish and that’s why we’ve had to do so many poisonings.

We have already started to dare to set up the house with a good mood and have brought things little by little into their places. Strangely, the house starts to feel like home. And it no longer feels like the move just goes on and on. It took more than a year, but it’s slowly getting better. π
Now itβs year 2023 and right to the beginning, happy new year to everyone. After the poisoning in September, we have found approx. 5 long-tailed silverfish that were more or less alive. It has already been a good 3 months since the poisoning. I think it’s already starting to sound pretty good compared to a year ago. Back then, there were even several hundred long-tailed silverfish.
We already decided before Christmas that we will do the sixth poisoning in the near future. However, we didn’t want to take it before Christmas, so we decided to move it to the beginning of the year. And by the way, this year we were able to bake the gingerbread in peace! π
We will tell you more about the new poisoning operation when the results start to appear. I could estimate that we will be wiser in March. By the way, I noticed that the motivation for cleaning, protecting places, etc. is nice when you visualize the end result in your mind every day. It is understandable that nerves and hope seem to fade at times, but everything always turns out well.

I hope I have been helpful in writing about our own experiences. Remember that you don’t have to worry about getting rid of the long-tailed silverfish or not, when you know that you can get help and the poisons work well. you just have to be really patient and consistent. It is also worth being observant in the sense that you can notice the long-tailed silverfish situation. It can really be a couple of months that nothing is visible and then it is. It is worth trying to get rid of them completely, otherwise it might backfire later and the whole thing starts all over again.
It is a big help if you can manage to keep the places relatively clean and clear. You should try not to store large piles of stuff on the floor. It always sneakily accumulates, e.g. leaves or clothes that go for recycling, etc.
In closing, once again happy new year 2023 to everyone!
